Chairman's Message: August 2018

Ian McDonnell - Chairman

Over the next few weeks we have a number of BRCC events coming up – please keep a look out on Facebook for more details of these:

Tuesdays & Wednesdays
We continue with the 7:00 – 8:30 pm evening rides from the clubhouse.
The Tuesday rides are around 22 miles with a steady group at 14-15 mph, with a faster group at 17+ going a bit further.

The Wednesday ride is aimed at beginners and families at a gentle 10 – 13 mph. Our youngest rider is a 5yr old whiz kid, happy to do the 11.3m TT route with us. All are welcome.

Wednesday 29th August
We will have our own ‘Mini TT’ for the children (accompanied of course) where they can ride the Bunny Lane loop starting and finishing on Badger bridge. In the past this has been great fun with the children racing off with numbers pinned to their backs and Mum or Dad in hot pursuit.

Our Thursday Evening League TTs are now sadly over. These have been great fun and lots of people have broken records and bettered their own PBs. This year we started out with a couple of ‘taster’ sessions and plan to do the same before next year’s league starts out.

Saturdays
John Gibson continues to plot a testing route of around 60 + miles at a fast and furious pace – why not put yourself to the test… These usually start from McDonalds at Aspects Park and finish at the clubhouse.

Sundays
We continue with two Sunday ride outs, the traditional ride out at 9am from the Swan on the embankment Bedford of 50 – 70 miles and a ‘Short & Steady’ led ride from the clubhouse of 35ish miles. These are social rides rather than races or training rides with the emphasis on having a fun ride and testing out local cafes.

We also have a few more dates to note in the diary:

Sunday 2nd September
1. The Club is holding a 20.5 mile Time Trial from Cardington Sheds near Shortstown to Henlow and back, starting at 8am, so the roads are nice and quiet. Book [here] to enter.

2. There is also the ABF ride starting at Stanbridge with a variety of routes from 25 to 64 miles. There are already some club members signed up to this so why not come along and give it a go.

Sunday 9th September
This is the last of this year's ‘100s’ series. This time the ‘Hilly 100’ with a variety of routes offered – 100 miles / 100 km and a family friendly 17mile route. All starting from the clubhouse at various times to ensure we all get back at similar times – there may even be food. The 100m & 100km rides aim to cover some of our local notorious hills, Liddlington, Bowbrick, Sundon and Hexton hills with the 100 miler also climbing Wendover, Tom’s and Bison hills.

Monday 10th September
Our monthly Committee meeting – we will be discussing the AGM in more depth there plus other BRCC business – all are welcome to attend and join in.

Sunday 16th September
BRCC’s Road Race – more details on the facebook pages.

Friday 28th September
Our AGM – A separate note will come out on this regarding format and agenda plus more on roles within the committee. Please put this in your diary though.

Sunday 30th September
The InterClub Hill climb, or, as I prefer to call it, the ‘Half Mile’ TT. BRCC are currently top of the interclub table and it would be nice to win this trophy back from CC Ashwell. It’s a fun day out and a great little climb – please do come and give it a go.

If anyone has any news please do send it to the club care of 'Secretary@bedsroad.org'
