Hello everyone!

The Evening League series has been an outstanding success this year, thanks to everyone's enthusiasm, we really hope you all enjoyed competing as much as we did.

It was particularly encouraging to see so many people over a wide age range trying the Evening League for the first time, and coming back for more each week. At the time of writing this, there are 2 more events to run, and results will be calculated and publicised before the end of the month.

Prizes will be presented at the annual prize-giving in January.

New Club night !
Club night is Thursday, pop in for a cuppa, a natter, a game of pool, a tinker with your bike. The clubhouse is open from around 8pm, feel welcome to pop in!. You will see from the list below that we have plenty for you in the coming months, so we strongly encourage you to attend the club nights to learn about what is going on, to swap ideas, bring your bike along for advice on technical issues, and to generally socialise. It is totally informal.

Here are a few forthcoming activities we have lined up for you...

1. Cyclo-Cross series
An off-road competition series involving riding on a variety of off-road surfaces, with a little running included for variety. Watch the Cyclo-Cross section of the forum for details or pop down to a Thursday club night to natter with others face-to-face over a cuppa.

2. Mountain Biking
Held on Thursday evenings over the winter, Mark Gray leads a variety of mountainbike rides out over various mixed offroad/road courses, helping to keep up your fitness levels, in the company of a mixed bag of fun-loving mud addicts. Mark Gray, secretary@bedsroad.org, then finish at the clubhouse to proudly show everone at the Thursday club-evening how muddy you managed to get!

3. Sunday morning Club Runs
We normally have 2 club runs each Sunday, both leave from outside the Swan hotel on Bedford's embankment. One is more leisurely than the other, at around 12-14 miles/hour, against around 18 miles/hour. Watch the Club Ride section of the forum for details or pop down to a Thursday club night to speak to others about prospective routes, tea stops etc..

4. Go-Ride
For members aged 6 to 16, we offer Saturday morning Go-Ride training, which has proved to be highly popular and allows our younger members to learn racing skills in the safety of school playing fields, woodlands or purpose built cycle racing tracks. These courses normally run during term time and are based at Robert Bloomfield School in Shefford, but we also have occasional events during the school holidays.

Keep an eye on the GoRide section of the forum, or contact Mark Anstee at goride@bedsroad.org.

5. Film nights
We are licensed to show DVDs, so our Thursday club-nights are occasionally treated to a film screening, normally cycling related. Advanced notice of a screening is always given on the website front page. If you have a DVD you'd like to share at a screening, please let us know!

6. Cycle maintenance - how to
Des Roberts is running a series of practical demos on general bike maintenance, covering such topics as puncture repair, chain care, periodic checks etc. These are held at the clubhouse - see website front page for dates.

What have we missed - would you like to see something added to this list? Or would you like to help with running an event? If so, please let us know at secretary@bedsroad.org

All the best, happy, safe cycling to you all,
